Parrots of the Caribbean

Madison Rotary’s PARROTS OF THE CARIBBEAN is our end-of-summer fundraiser party that features live music, dancing, raffle baskets, food and libations in a Caribbean-style theme. Since 2002, “Parrots” – as it is known locally – has become the premier party event in downtown Madison, having grown from a small gathering of Rotarians in a community club house to a spectacular event attended by over 700 guests from across the surrounding area.

During this celebration, Rotarians host a great community event while also honoring the corporations, companies, and individuals whose generous donations throughout the year support our local and international humanitarian service projects.  The event also allows Rotarians to share the highlights of our on-going service projects with our guests and followers on social media.

Building a Wheelchair Ramp with CASA

Rotarians John Possel, Joe Kemp, and Kevin Cedeno Get Help From Future Rotarians

We took advantage of February’s record warm weather to join CASA in building a wheelchair ramp.  Even our kids came out to participate in this great service project.  Contact us if you’d like to participate in our next Done-in-a-Day Project.

Senior Center Mardi Gras Party

In February 2017, we hosted the first annual Steve Croomes Memorial Mardi Gras Party at the Madison Senior Center.  More than 50 guests had a wonderful time enjoying King Cake and punch while visiting with friends.  And the newly crowned Mardi Gras King and Queen will be the guests of honor on our parade float during the Christmas Downtown Celebration.  So, don’t forget to join us in December at the Madison Christmas Parade to honor the King and Queen!

Done-in-a-Day Projects

DONE-IN-A-DAY Projects cover just about anything you can imagine.  When we find a need, we find a day to put our “Service Above Self” motto to work.  These one day projects have included

  • collecting food and delivering annual Thanksgiving Boxes to local families
  • ringing bells for the Salvation Army
  • supporting a Wounded Warrior Softball Game
  • working with CASA to build a wheelchair ramp
  • participating in the annual SS Kids Program (school supplies)
  • cleaning graffiti from Rainbow Mountain hiking trails
  • installing insulation for a local needy family
  • collecting and delivering health and hygiene products to the Huntsville Inner City Learning Center

While some are annual projects, others are performed to satisfy a one-time need.  For some, we team with other charitable organizations, and for others we solely provide the service.  Often, the project benefits a large group while others may serve just one individual.  But, regardless of the magnitude, every one of these projects changes someone’s life.  If you’d like to participate, let us know.  I’m sure we can talk one of the kids out of his drill.

Madison Street Festival

On the first Saturday in October, Madison Rotarians participate in the annual MADISON STREET FESTIVAL in historic downtown Madison.  The Street Festival is Madison’s largest annual event and includes a parade, a juried Art Show, Car Show, Children’s Area, Entertainment, Community Showcase, Arts & Crafts, Information Booths, and great Southern Food.  We hope you will join us at the 37th annual Street Festival on October 7th, 2017 where you can visit the Rotary Tent to learn more about our service projects. You can’t miss us… look for the young folks at the soccer kicking booth!
